Privacy Policy

How we look after your information. Plain English. No tracking, no data brokers.

1. Who we are

This site is operated by Driveaway Limited trading as Drive Away Bargains, a company registered in England & Wales under company number 16242091. We're based in Hornchurch, Essex. You can reach us on WhatsApp on 07424 377858 or by email at sales@driveawaybargains.co.uk. For the purposes of UK GDPR, we are the data controller of any personal data you give us.

2. What data we collect

We only collect the minimum we need to talk to you and sell you a car. Specifically:

  • Contact details you give us on WhatsApp, by phone, or by email โ€” name, phone number, sometimes email and a rough postcode if you ask about delivery.
  • Vehicle interest โ€” which car you asked about and any preferences you mention.
  • Reservation details โ€” when you reserve via PayPal, PayPal handles the card details (we never see them) and shares with us only your name, the order ID and confirmation that the ยฃ99 cleared.
  • Sale details โ€” when you actually buy a car, we collect the information required by law for V5C transfer and HPI compliance.
  • Server logs โ€” our hosting provider (Netlify) keeps standard request logs (IP address, user agent, page visited) for security and abuse-prevention. We don't access these unless something goes wrong.

We don't use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any third-party tracker. We don't drop advertising cookies. The site uses one essential cookie to remember if you've ticked the trade-sale confirmation, and your browser caches static assets like CSS and images.

3. Why we use it

We use your data only to:

  • Reply to your enquiry and arrange a viewing.
  • Process a ยฃ99 reservation and the eventual sale.
  • Send the V5C transfer to DVLA and complete any HPI / MOT / finance checks required by law.
  • Keep accounting, tax and trade-records as required by HMRC and the Companies Act.

We do not use your data for marketing without your explicit consent, and we do not sell, rent, or trade your data to anyone, ever.

4. Legal basis for processing

The legal bases we rely on under UK GDPR are: (a) contract, where we need the data to perform our contract with you (e.g. process your reservation, transfer the V5C); (b) legal obligation, where the law requires us to keep certain records (e.g. HMRC, anti-money-laundering, V5C); and (c) legitimate interest for routine pre-sale conversation (replying to your WhatsApp, keeping a record of the conversation while the sale is in progress) โ€” balanced against your privacy expectations.

5. Who we share it with

The very short list:

  • PayPal โ€” when you reserve, your card and identity data go through PayPal under their own privacy policy. We only see the order ID and confirmation.
  • DVLA โ€” for V5C transfer at point of sale.
  • HPI / vehicle-data providers โ€” pre-sale checks.
  • Our accountant / HMRC โ€” accounting and tax compliance.
  • Our hosting and email providers (Netlify, the email provider we use to receive sales@โ€ฆ) โ€” purely as data processors, under contract, only to deliver the service.

We never share your data with car dealers, marketers, advertisers, lead-aggregators or anyone else who'd want to call or email you.

6. How long we keep it

WhatsApp and email enquiries that don't lead to a sale: deleted within 90 days. Reservation records and sale records: kept for 7 years to comply with HMRC and Companies Act requirements. After that, deleted. Server logs: 30 days.

7. Where we store it

All data is stored on UK or EEA servers (Netlify, our email provider). Where any of our processors transfer data outside the UK/EEA we rely on the UK Government's adequacy decisions or the ICO-approved Standard Contractual Clauses.

8. Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to: ask us what data we hold about you (subject access); ask us to correct anything inaccurate; ask us to delete your data (subject to our legal obligations to keep certain records); ask us to limit how we use it; ask us to give you a copy of it in a portable format; and object to any processing we do under legitimate interest. To exercise any of these, email sales@driveawaybargains.co.uk with "Data request" in the subject. We'll respond within one calendar month.

9. Complaints

If you think we've handled your data poorly, please tell us first and give us a chance to fix it โ€” most issues clear up in one WhatsApp. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or by phone on 0303 123 1113.

10. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy materially, we'll update the date at the bottom of this page. Significant changes will be flagged on the home page for at least 30 days.
